Description

Europe faces a broad array of dynamic threats. The most dangerous arise from criminal and terrorist networks that operate across international borders, engaged in activities that range from terrorism, to human trafficking, to smuggling and other forms of organized crime. Critically, these trends in high-threat criminality and terrorism are increasingly intertwined with illegal migration flows from the Middle East, Africa, and Asia - which poses a range of complex challenges for Law Enforcement and their civilian counterparts.

FrontLine Advisory has developed a proprietary approach to Human Terrain Analysis, The Ecosystem™, which enables LE professionals to analyze the relationship between illicit networks and the communities among which they operate – and to more effectively disrupt those networks by exploiting this knowledge. Developed, refined, and proven by our principals in a variety of real-world environments, The Ecosystem™ combines the best practices of intelligence-led operations with the ethos and mind-set of community policing and innovative social science methods.

Course Logistics: FrontLine offers an introductory 4-day seminar on The Ecosystem™ approach to Human Terrain Analysis. The course runs four hours per day, with lecture, small group discussions, and open question sessions. The course can be delivered on-site with our clients worldwide, accommodating up to 45 students (with a course minimum of 12).

Objectives

Mastery of The Ecosystem enables the practitioner to assess and understand:
➢ The internal dynamics and vulnerabilities of criminal & terrorist networks
➢ The dynamics of connectivity between these networks and civilian communities
➢ The particular features of the human terrain that hold relevance to specific tactical, operational, and strategic objectives

This knowledge enables the practitioner to:
➢ Design and implement more sophisticated approaches disrupt and degrade criminal and terrorist networks
➢ Design and implement campaigns that undermine these networks’ connectivity to civilian communities
➢ Design and implement outreach and influence campaigns that impact local society in ways that undermine these networks, build civil society resiliency, and further our security interests
➢ Anticipate the 2nd and 3rd order effects of each of the above activities
